I'd add to that for artists to LIFE DRAW as much as possible...also keeps you fresh and 'oiled.' Taking a thoughtful approach to your work and allowing yourself to try new things (and yes, maybe to fail) ensures that you will grow as an artist. It's very easy to get comfortable with a particular style, but I think that leads to the death of creativity.Joan Charleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10523860267313130697noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5252752810935440938.post-53686707086221689762012-11-01T15:54:05.094-07:002012-11-01T15:54:05.094-07:00Tim, some publishers do get tied to a particular s...Tim, some publishers do get tied to a particular style from an illustrator and don't want to stray from that. That's fine. What I would say, however, is that for the sake of the artist, it's important to experiment with styles, try new things, and keep your portfolio fresh to lay the groundwork for working with other publishers and, as you say, other outlets! emma d drydenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08742492495749128209noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5252752810935440938.post-21945910975894557572012-11-01T15:49:23.830-07:002012-11-01T15:49:23.830-07:00My pleasure! The argument is that the co-publishers like to know what they are getting. Having said that, as creative people we always have other outlets! I love your advice to keep experimenting (I always hear the opposite, to stick with one style or medium) - I'm happy to know that being such a mad scientist is actually a plus :D Thank you so much Emma.Leah Jayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03988675881178763589noreply@blogger.com
